Hey guys! I'm so freaking excited to get back to blogging, you don't even know. For the last month I had to go on a slight yorubadgirl.com hiatus because I've been so busy applying to fashion school and what not. I just submitted my application to Parsons School of Design in New York City three days ago and now I have nothing but time to bombard the world wide web with some new posts. As some of you may already know via my last post, social media, calls, texts, emails, et cetra et cetra, I'm also competing for a scholarship to attend Parsons for ummm... free. One of the requirements for the competition was to submit a video on YouTube and get as many likes as possible, so if you haven't checked it out yet please do so and help me move to the next level in the competition. Anyways, I decided to kill two birds of maybe three birds with one stone and blog all three looks from the video, how convenient right?
So about the dress... of all the dresses that I have constructed and designed this happens to be one of my favorites. I don't know if you guys can tell by now, but I'm a sucker for any thing that has a little glimmer to it. For this look I wanted a dress that would turn heads as soon as I walked in the building, so I thought what screams 'look at me' more than mirrors? So I bought 1/4" triangle tile mirrors online and got to work. First I sewed the dress using navy gabardine fabric from Hancock Fabrics and an ankara print from Vlisco. I think that sometimes ankara prints can be very over powering so I decide to do the dress half ankara and the other half a solid color fabric. After I finished sewing and fitting the dress I glued and handstitched every single mirror down the middle and it took hours.
Lately, I've been drawn to silver and stainless steel for what ever reason, so in this look I ran with it. I accessorized with silver rings and nail polish to play off the silver mirrors. And for the kicks I chose the navy blue and black Zara lace up heels as a compliment to the navy blue side of the dress. However, I am still on the hunt for the perfect silver heels, so if you find some let me know.
So this is the first of three other looks I will be blogging about so stay posted. And I can't thank you all enough for all the support and love from my video and taking the time to check out my posts. Love you to pieces.
