Oh my is that a lion, tiger, or bear? Are we in the jungle? No, I'm just at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens covered in some Ivie, no big deal. But these aren't your ordinary ivies, these beads are Ivie-uru, the coral beaded shawl slash cape necklaces that are worn by Nigerian brides from Edo State. Ivie-uru, or Ivie beads are ceremonial wedding attire of Edo brides worn with beads in the hair in the shape of a crown. I've always admired the traditional attire that the Edo brides wear and couldn't wait to incorporate this piece into my own wardrobe. So when my friend Carolyna told me she was selling Ivie beads I didn't hesitate to buy them. I just love when my two worlds collide and I get a effortlessly balanced outfit that is a mix of my Nigerian heritage and the influence of my American enviorment. It's like the Western Trendsetter meets the African Princess. Lol. I'm just kidding, sorta.
This look is all about the Ivie beads so I took the minimalistic approach when it came to styling them. I knew that I really wanted to wear white with these beads and something that made me feel regal and elegant, and kind of 'bride-ish,' Yeah I know, bride-ish isn't a word but hey you get the picture. So to bring this look together I opted for a bandeau croptop and long maxi skirt from Missguided.
My love for flowers is very real, I love them almost as much as I love shoes. And these shoes are no different, they are by the Brazilian designer Schutz. The fringe detail and the fact that they're white is what did it for me. I also accesorized with some authentic coral beads from that I took from my dad worn as a bracelet and a gold watch that was given to from my mom. Got to love family heirlooms.
Seriously, this was one of my favorite locations to shoot at I really had a blast capturing these whimsical moments. If you love 'controlled' nature (cause I'm not the typical outdoor adventure type of girl) then Atlanta Botanical Gardens is a must see. Hope all is well, thank you for you presence its truly a present.
